Amnesia in the oprating room: a controlled study with diazepam (Valium) and morphine-scopolamine.

چکیده
Psychic trauma in the operating room has been recognized for a long time, and the deleterious effects of being awake during local, spinal, or other regional block anesthesia have often precluded the use of block-type anesthesia even when the patient's condition has indicated it. In order to prevent trauma, it has been postulated that the patient might not be psychically traumatized if he was reasonably drowsy and did not have any unpleasant memories of the operation. It was on this premise that the following study was made.* A total of 44 patients were studied; 17 of whom received diazepam and 27 of whom received morphine-scopolamine. Criteria for the study included the following: 1. Patients had to be under the age of 60 years. 2. Patients had to be in the 1-3 risk

Involvement of central amygdala muscarinic receptors in morphine-induced amnesia in rat
Introduction: Learning and memory processes result from interaction of neurotransmitter systems in various brain regions such as amygdala and hippocampus. Considering that morphine induces memory impairment, in the current study, we examined the possible role of cholinergic muscarinic receptors of the central amygdala (CeA) on the morphine-induced amnesia in adult male Wistar rats. Methods...
متن کاملDiazepam as an adjunct to bronchoscopy.
A controlled double-blind study of 50 patients undergoing bronchoscopy under topical anesthesia was done to determine the effectiveness of diazepam (Valium) premedicationas compared to meperidine. The majority of the patients in both groupswere able to relax and cooperate during the procedure. Cooperativeness was significantly better in the meperidine group. Anxiety and restlessnesswere affecte...

Introduction: The current study aimed at investigating the existence of the cross state-dependent learning between morphine and scopolamine (SCO) in mice by passive avoidance method, pointing to the role of CA1 area. Methods: The effects of pre-training SCO (0.75, 1.5, and 3 μg, Intra-CA1), or morphine (1, 3, and 6 mg/kg, intraperitoneal (i.p.) was evaluated on the retrieval of passiv...
متن کاملBacopa monniera selectively attenuates suppressed Superoxide dismutase activity in Diazepam induced amnesic mice
BACKGROUND Amnesia is characterized by loss of memory that could result from abnormal neuro-chemical homeostasis, genetic predisposition or drug abuse. We earlier reported that B. monniera attenuates diazepam, scopolamine and L-NNA induced amnesia and wanted to test if SOD levels were affected by its administration. PURPOSE B. monniera is earlier reported to augment the defense system for oxi...
